An agent is the AI that holds the conversation for you on a phone call, a browser call or a WhatsApp chat. Every call or chat in Ringg runs through one, so it is the first thing you build after signing in. In the dashboard, agents are listed under Assistants in the sidebar. The page itself is titled Agents, and Create agent opens the Create Assistant dialog. You choose two things when you create an agent: the channel it talks on, and how its instructions are built.

Agent types by channel

The Create Assistant dialog has four tabs: Outbound, Inbound, Webcall and WhatsApp. The tab decides which templates you see and what the agent can connect to. Outbound-Inbound is not a tab: it is an outbound agent with Inbound Calling set to Enabled. You can switch Inbound Calling on later too: it is under Advanced Settings in the editor of any outbound agent. An outbound-inbound agent’s editor then shows Outbound and Inbound tabs, so each direction gets its own prompt. The widget is not limited to webcall agents. Embed & Widgets is on every agent except WhatsApp agents, so a voice agent can also take browser calls.

Agent types by build style

Every agent is either single-prompt or multi-prompt. The dashboard calls the second kind Multi Prompt; the agent list filters it as Multi-node. Start single-prompt. It is faster to write and easier to change, because a fix is one edit in one prompt. Move to multi-prompt when the model keeps skipping or reordering steps that must happen in order, or when a step needs keypad input or an API result before the call can continue.

Build each type

Whatever the type, the order is the same: create the agent, test it, then connect its channel. Before a phone agent goes live, run through the go-live checklist.

What an agent is made of

These are the sections of the single-prompt editor sidebar. A multi-prompt agent keeps the agent-wide ones in Global Settings and the rest on its nodes. The outbound caller ID is not stored on the agent. You pick it each time you place a call or start a campaign.

The Agents page

The page lists every agent in the workspace, with Create agent at the top right.
  • Channels: filters the list to All, Voice, WhatsApp, Browser (webcall agents) or Multi-node (multi-prompt agents).
  • Search by name or ID matches any part of a name, ignoring case; an ID has to match in full.
  • Agents are grouped as Favourites, then Edited last week (changed in the last 7 days), then Older, newest first within each group. Empty groups are not shown.
  • The star on a row pins the agent under Favourites. Favourites live in your browser, so teammates and your other devices don’t see them.
  • Each row shows its channel and direction (Voice • Outbound, Voice • Inbound, Voice • Outbound-Inbound, Browser, WhatsApp or Multi-node) and Activity, the agent’s call count since it was created (”—” when there is none). It counts phone and web calls, not WhatsApp chats, and can lag by a few minutes. An agent with its own call limit shows it as a chip such as 5 calls/1hr; agents on the workspace limit show no chip.
The row’s ⋮ menu:

Find the agent ID

API calls, campaigns and webhooks identify an agent by its agent_id. Find it in any of these places:
  • The copy button next to the agent name in the editor’s top bar.
  • The editor URL: /assistants/<agent_id>.
  • The agent list search (Search by name or ID), which matches a full ID exactly.
By API, List Agents lists every agent with its ID. Send your API key in the X-API-KEY header (authentication).
Page through the list with limit and offset; without limit, it returns every agent. To read one agent, use Get Agent.
